Beyond the usual suspects, couples are choosing a blend of classic and unexpected destinations for their big day.

A wedding is that life’s one occasion meant to unfold in a place that feels deeply personal, one that echoes your soul. And yet, for the longest time, destination weddings have leaned into the same imagery: sun-drenched Tuscan vineyards or postcard-perfect Maldivian overwater villas. Beautiful, yes, but increasingly predictable. Although destination weddings are surging, with the global market projected to reach $68 billion by 2035, the appetite has shifted. As we move into 2026, couples are rewriting the narrative: abandoning the classical locations in favour of soulful, offbeat locations.

Vogue Arabia looks at the most coveted wedding destinations that are poised to define the next wave of luxury weddings:

1. Cappadocia, Türkiye

While Türkiye has long held its place on the global destination-wedding map, Cappadocia remains surprisingly unexplored as a wedding destination within it. It’s impossible to believe a place this magical exists anywhere else. This is a landscape for couples drawn to geography, history, and otherworldly places shaped by time. Particularly, the town of Göreme, overlooking Love Valley and Pigeon Valley. The visuality is quietly magnificent with sculpted rock formations, undulating valleys and fairy chimneys that emerge from a vast, lunar-like terrain. It’s a kind of visual poetry, ancient and cinematic all at once. For a more intimate experience, a classic cave hotel feels like the most natural choice - especially the Museum Hotel, the world’s first museum-concept hotel, a Relais & Châteaux property, and a 2025 two-MICHELIN-Keys destination. Cappadocia remains one of those rare landscapes where love and the exchange of vows feel impossibly surreal.

2. Kazbegi & Gudauri, Georgia

Picture the Caucasus stretching out before you, Kazbegi and Gudauri’s snow-dusted peaks holding the horizon, the person you love standing beside you. It feels like a fairytale, grounded in stillness! What makes the country especially appealing is that it still feels largely undiscovered. Its charm lies in contrast. For vineyard weddings, there’s Kakheti and Tsinandali, while Mtskheta and Tbilisi have centuries-old churches and old-world architecture. But it’s Kazbegi and Gudauri, with their dramatic mountain backdrops and low-lying clouds settling into the valleys below - occasionally punctuated by horses in the distance - that feel truly ethereal. The landscape does most of the work, where once the celebrations wind down, you can have a long, beautiful evening with conversations that linger late into the night. There are standout mountain venues such as Rooms Kazbegi and Monte Hotel, alongside experienced planners like Ori Wedding, a Tbilisi-based one, in shaping weddings in the region.

3. Aqaba, Jordan

Set against the Red Sea, with golden desert tones and mountains rising quietly in the distance, Aqaba offers a wedding setting that feels refreshingly unfiltered. With ancient roots stretching back thousands of years, it is still largely untouched as a destination wedding location. The water remains a clear, tranquil blue, the pace unhurried, and the atmosphere calm. Add to that its year-round pleasant weather and the natural contrast of sea, desert, and mountains, and it is effortlessly picturesque. A ceremony timed around sunset - the sea right there, the sky doing what it does best - softens everything. The setting does enough, and often more than expected. With open terraces and uninterrupted sea views, Kempinski Hotel Aqaba stands out.

4. Tangier, Morocco

Tangier sits where Europe and Africa trade glances across the sea. Overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar, with the Mediterranean to the east and the Atlantic to the west, it feels suspended between worlds - and that sense of in-between is precisely what makes it compelling for a wedding. The city unfolds along a wide sweep of sand, edged with beach clubs, cafés, and old-world hotels rather than oversized resorts. What sets Tangier apart is its duality. It’s a city of contrasts, lending wedding settings a rare cultural depth and a sense of quiet intrigue. It’s exactly what drew Salima Issaoui and her husband, Mehdi, who married here in October. Both Barcelonians born to immigrant parents, they returned to Morocco intentionally, choosing Tangier because it reflects who they are - a meeting point between Africa and Europe, between tradition and modernity.

5. Bacalar, Mexico

Mexico invites you to slow down. Between storied cities and an unhurried way of life, there’s an easy interplay of nature, history, and something quietly elemental. As a destination wedding location, the country doesn’t offer a single mood: each place feels like its own world, layered with cultural depth. Like the jade-hued waters of the country’s famed Blue Lagoon in Bacalar, find palettes, lush greenery, and views that create an enchanting stage for an unforgettable event. Still a hidden gem for international weddings, Bacalar feels quietly extraordinary. Our Habitas Bacalar unfolds like a dreamscape. Expansive yet intimate, its gathering spaces move from the open-air Lagoon Deck and intimate palapa-style Shala to the lagoon-facing, two-storey restaurant, Siete.

6. Puglia, Italy

Italy’s southern region of Puglia reads like something lifted from a romance novel. For couples looking beyond the country’s familiar wedding circuits, it offers something increasingly rare: sun-bleached historic farmhouses transformed into elegant venues, a dramatic coastline, and olive groves that stretch endlessly toward the horizon. Couples drawn to old-world romance can choose between minimalist-washed villas, rustic-chic farmhouses marked by crumbling stone, or warm terracotta houses where you can host long, candlelit dinners unfold beneath fig trees before dancing under the stars. With a timeless charm around, there is also exceptionally good food, particularly fresh seafood. For something especially meaningful, historic masserie (fortified farmhouses), Masseria Li Reni, a beautifully preserved 16th-century estate in the countryside near Manduria, stands out for its quiet elegance, having ancient olive trees and vineyards. “I’ve worked in the Italian wedding industry for 15 years, and there is a strong and growing interest among Arabian couples in Puglia as a wedding destination,” affirms Giulia Molinari, president of the Wedding Planner Puglia Association.

7. Kotor, Montenegro

Montenegro remains largely undiscovered, a quality that appeals to couples seeking weddings that feel secluded, off-the-radar, and intentionally exclusive. The landscape shifts effortlessly from rugged mountains to medieval towns and along a clear stretch of Adriatic coastline. The romance lies in the details. Kotor, with its cobblestoned streets, centuries-old churches, and Baroque palaces, feels suspended in time — especially with candlelit receptions. Just an hour away, Perast offers a gentler counterpoint. Car-free and impossibly charming, its waterfront churches and historic facades are made for intimate weddings. Heritage Grand Perast captures the romance of the bay with panoramic views and understated Mediterranean charm, while Forza Terra and Forza Mare Hotel, set within UNESCO-protected Kotor, stand as one of Montenegro’s most refined addresses for weddings defined by elegance.
