For more than a decade, Lindsay Lohan has quietly called Dubai home — a deliberate move that transformed not only her lifestyle, but her relationship with fame itself. Long before her recent career resurgence and motherhood, the actress relocated to the UAE in search of something Hollywood had never afforded her: normalcy, privacy and peace.

Today, that choice defines the life she has built with husband Bader Shammas and their son – a grounded family existence far removed from the paparazzi frenzy that once surrounded her.

Leaving Hollywood behind

By the mid-2010s, after years under relentless tabloid scrutiny, Lohan stepped away from Los Angeles and the entertainment industry altogether. She first spent time in London before settling permanently in Dubai in 2014 — a move she has described as instinctive self-preservation.

“I wasn’t having fun in the business anymore,” she has said. “It’s not a life I wanted to live, you know? It’s not a real life. It pushed me so far away that I moved to the other side of the world. And I’m so glad I followed my gut.”

Dubai offered distance not only from Hollywood, but from a culture of constant surveillance that had defined her early fame.

The privacy that changed everything

In the UAE, Lohan discovered something she had never experienced as a global celebrity: anonymity in public spaces. Strict privacy norms and limited paparazzi presence allowed her to live largely unobserved — a freedom she describes as transformative.

“That’s a big breath of fresh air,” she has said of life in Dubai, “having to not overthink everything you do every second.”

That privacy became even more meaningful after she married Shammas and welcomed their son in 2023. Unlike her own childhood in the spotlight, her child is growing up outside the machinery of celebrity culture.

Building a family life in Dubai

Dubai is also where Lohan’s most significant adult milestones unfolded: meeting her husband, marrying and becoming a mother. The city, she says, anchors her priorities.

“Being in Dubai is very grounding,” she has shared. “I get to just spend time with my family. The city gives me a sense of being with what’s most important.”

Her daily life now revolves less around industry schedules than around home routines — school runs, family time, and carefully selected work projects that fit around them. “I’m very selective with when and where I shoot because of my husband and son,” she has explained. “I want to get in, do my job and get right home.”

A different relationship with fame

Living in Dubai has not meant abandoning her career; rather, it has reshaped how she engages with it. After stepping back from acting for several years, Lohan returned when she felt ready, producing and starring in films on her own terms.

“With age comes a different kind of confidence,” she has said. “And now it feels good to steer my own ship.”

Distance from Hollywood’s pressure cycle allowed her to rediscover enjoyment in performance — something she felt had been lost during her early stardom. “I knew I would go back when I started missing it again,” she has said.
