This iconic property first opened in the 1920s and quickly became a key landmark in the city’s hospitality scene. It eventually closed in 1986 and remained silent for nearly four decades. Following an extensive restoration, the hotel has now reopened with a renewed sense of energy. It still holds on to its 20th-century charm, but with a far more refined and contemporary approach to luxury. The striking design refurbishment was led by Studio Crivelli and ULTRAPRESENT Studio, with the idea rooted in Como’s silk-making heritage. Here, fabric is no longer used purely for ornamentation – it plays an instrumental role in filtering light, softening acoustics and shaping the mood of the interiors. Venetian terrazzo, glossy woods and warm muted tones create a space that feels elegant without becoming overly formal. More than one hundred artworks are placed strategically throughout the hotel, guiding guests through Como’s cultural history while strengthening the property’s sense of identity.
There are 70 rooms spread across four floors, designed to maximise natural light with high ceilings that create an immediate sense of warmth and ease, complementing the understated palette. The suites offer the best views of the city squares, all while maintaining a strong sense of privacy. Bespoke furnishings by local artisans and spacious bathrooms make the stay feel deeply connected to the fabric of the city, without unnecessary polish. The dining scene is just as thoughtfully considered as the rest of the property. Caffè Lariano, led by Chef Mirko Gatti, is centred around sustainability and circular cooking, using local seasonal ingredients with intention. For fine dining, Radiante offers Chef Danilo Vella’s elevated take on Italian cuisine, layered with nuanced Sicilian influences.
