When you think of the Big Apple,  you picture yellow taxis, Broadway, Central Park and breathtaking vistas. But the one thing that New York’s skyline feels incomplete without is The Peninsula New York on Fifth Avenue. Built in 1904, the hotel’s presence extends beyond luxury. It is a landmark and recurring icon of the city’s pop culture and fashion narrative.

Recently, the hotel underwent a facelift inspired by Manhattan in the Roaring Twenties. The redesign balances subtle rebellion and enduring glamour with poise and sophistication that define the property. The result is a space that feels impeccably appointed, stylish and rich in character. Award-winning Bill Rooney Studio led the renovation, reimagining key spaces including the lobby, reception and Palm Court. The hotel’s rooftop lounge has now been renamed Pen Top. “This refurbishment marks a new era for The Peninsula New York, solidifying our stance as the pinnacle of luxury in Manhattan,” says Samir Ibrahim, the hotel’s managing director. “Harmoniously blending contemporary design and distinguished elegance, we are committed to providing exceptional service that defines The Peninsula brand. We look forward to welcoming guests to this reimagined luxury experience.”

When you enter the lobby, a grand chandelier fills the space with a warm glow. A few steps ahead, a marble-clad double staircase draws you inside. At its heart, the Palm Court reveals a surprise – a newly commissioned triptych by contemporary artist Ricardo Mazal. Inspired by nature and city life, the artwork is the pièce de résistance in the area’s voluminous setting. The dining and social spaces have been reimagined to improve the guest experience. Pen Top, formerly known as Salon de Ning, features an operable louvred roof, classic and modern cocktails, elevated bites and a lush, artist-loft-inspired design with incredible views of the city’s skyline. Gotham Lounge returns as an elegant and intimate piano bar showcasing local artworks and live music. The Clement restaurant remains a classic Midtown destination for breakfast, brunch and lunch. It offers seasonal menus, exclusive drinks and weekend classics.

The hotel offers 219 refurbished rooms and suites. The light, colour palette, curated furnishings and objets d’art complement the space,  adding subtle character and meaning. Luxury and high-tech convenience elevate the experience – touchscreen tablets provide access to a 24-hour digital concierge in six languages and bedside panels help control lighting and temperature. For the
ultimate indulgence, stay in one of the three newly redesigned signature suites – the Fifth Avenue Suite, the Peninsula Suite and the Grand Suite. These range from 1,600 to 3,000 square feet and offer breathtaking cityscapes of Fifth Avenue and Central Park. Is there a more quintessential New York experience? We think not. Rates start from $1,445/night for the Grand Luxe Room
