At Amouage A New Flower Blooms

Imagine a garden at dusk, the air heady with the scents of the day: warm florals, fertile earth and a clean, clear sky. You inhale deeply, all your senses alive to the wonders of nature around you. This is the world of Amouage’s Secret Garden, one of the most distinctive fragrance collections in luxury perfumery – and a new flower is blooming.

Each fragrance in the Secret Garden collection pairs a floral note with a gourmand accord to create something intimate and unique. Lilac Love offers the comfort of lilac and cocoa. Blossom Love is unabashedly romantic with cherry blossom and almond, while Love Tuberose brings that hypnotic flower together with Chantilly cream. Love Delight, in turn, leans into the warmth of honey and sweet heliotrope. Together, they form a garden of distinct personalities. Now, Love Hibiscus adds a new flower to the bouquet.

The inspiration came to Amouage’s Chief Creative Officer, Renaud Salmon, from the flowers surrounding him at home in Oman: hibiscus blooms so striking and ubiquitous they seemed an obvious invitation. But hibiscus is not a simple flower. In bloom, it is electric, its large petals saturated with crimson, pink and coral. Dried or infused, its scent turns darker and more complex: herbal, woody, faintly bitter, with the depth of red berries steeped in hot water. For its gourmand counterpart, Salmon reached back to his French childhood and the palmiers his mother would pull from the oven. “I went from the palmiers of my childhood to the hibiscus of Oman, via the country’s palm trees,” he says. “A genuine delicious connection.”

Created by perfumer Jérôme Epinette as his first composition for the house, Love Hibiscus opens with salted caramel, passion fruit and bergamot before settling into its heart of hibiscus, orris and frankincense. The base of sandalwood, cypriol and vanilla brings warmth and depth. The flacon, in scarlet red, is as intense as the flower itself. The result is a fragrance of striking contrasts that come together as a vivacious, intoxicating scent.
